This year held so much good. It’s a lot of fun to look back on all the memories!
John, Bennie & I kicked off the year in Mendocino with my parents. I got one of the most beautiful sunrise runs I’d see all year (even with a slight hang over).
In February, I ran the Kaiser Permanente Half Marathon in San Francisco and got to meet a whole bunch of my cool Instagram friends.
It was also about this time when I finally figured out why I had been feeling so off. My thyroid was low and that was causing some fatigue, weight gain, feeling super bummed out, and getting slower when I ran!! The race was a tough one for me and I struggled with feeling pretty bad overall.
Also in February, I wanted to take Bennie The Dog on a trip to Portland to visit our old stomping grounds. My parents came, and we got to see my best friend, Melissa – a bunch of times. Bennie and I shared cupcakes (he had a pupcake) and it was magical.
In March, I went home to Chico and ran the Bidwell Half Marathon. I won my age division which was SO exciting! I finished the race and felt quite good which was really encouraging.
In April I got to run my first Boston Marathon!!! John & my parents came and it was so much fun. We spent about a week in the city, saw all the sights, and caught a Red Sox game. I didn’t run the race for time as I was still not feeling great from the thyroid issues and it was a very warm day. I wasn’t stoked about that, but still so excited for the opportunity that not much to steal my shine.
In May, I got the opportunity to be a part of a Jaybird video project called “This Is Why I Run.” The amazing people at Jaybird sent 3 kick ass human beings to come to Marin and film my little slice of heaven. It was such a cool experience and something I will never forget.
I got to run Bay to Breakers again this year! I don’t know how long I will keep it up, but it is a lot of fun to be a part of it! I felt the most like myself that I have in a long time at this race.
In June, I got to go to Seattle and run the Rock n Roll 5k and Half Marathon. I had one of the worst races I’ve ever run there, but the experience overall was a lot of fun. I refuse to let a bad race ruin a weekend traveling for running – because what could be better than that?! Of course I was a little bummed with my results, but I know that a good race always follows a rough one.
I flew directly from Seattle to Denver to meet John in Boulder. We got to do a very short, but fun trip there to explore a little. John even ran 6 miles with me! At altitude! He was awesome and so was Boulder.
In July we headed to Alaska for a very special wedding! John’s sister – and one of my closest friends – got married!! We had a really fun week getting to hang out with everyone and doing all kinds of fun Alaska activities.
At the end of July I got to run the San Francisco (Half) Marathon with Jaybird. I filmed the race from my perspective from Instagram and didn’t drop my phone, and also got to be a part of another video. Really lucky to work with this company!
In August, for my birthday, John took me on a wine boat cruise in the bay! This is one of those touristy activities that I’ve always wanted to do.
Bennie The Dog continued continued his career as a pet therapy dog at the hospital.
In August I got to run the Giants Half Marathon and see my friend Gregg! This was part of a 20 mile day and I was beyond grateful that he joined me for a couple of VERY hot miles after the race.
In September John moved in to OUR house! I knew I wanted to live together after about 6 months of dating, so it was something I’d been looking forward to for awhile. He’s been endlessly patient with my OCD since then. Just the two of us got all of this stuff moved by ourselves in a weekend. It was the hottest weekend in San Francisco in YEARS, but we made a great team.
In October I ran the Bridge to Bridge 12k so that I could earn the San Francisco series medal. I always get suckered into those things! I ran it nice and easy because the Chicago marathon was the next weekend.
And later in October I finally got the race payoff I’d been working for! The Chicago marathon was a hot day, but I got my BQ! Not a PR, but we will get there. My parents & John came as well, which was really special. I also got to meet more of my friends!
In October-November, we took an AMAZING trip. We started in Istanbul, toured around Portugal, then to Barcelona, Budapest and finally back home via Istanbul. Sevy met us in Budapest. The whole trip was special beyond words – even with the stomach virus my dad & I got hit with at the end.
Later in November, we got to spend Thanksgiving in Alaska with John’s family. We got to see moose, and I ran my very first Turkey Trot in 11 degree weather! I also got hit with another stomach virus. But the trip overall was a lot of fun.
In December, Stephanie came to town to run a half marathon. She & her husband, Gregg, Meredith and I took the opportunity to eat pasta together. Happiness.
John & I went to go see the new Star Wars movie and wore sweet glasses and shared sour candy.
We got to spend Christmas with my family! We learned that John’s love of golf is mostly supported by swinging as hard as physically possible, and hot toddies.
I ran 14 miles with my amazing Dad! His first 14 ever and he did amazing!
I also re-did my office/dressing room.
