Happy Sunday friends! Here’s what this weeks things were:
Monday I swam 3000 meters with my fancy new Garmin watch. I wrote about it in my Friday Favorites already, but I am so excited about it still. As you can see, it took me an hour and 11 minutes. I was so sore and tired, and the water felt like I was swimming through molasses haha. It felt good to move though, and swimming is very relaxing.
Monday night, Bennie The Dog and I made our way to our hotel for my work week. He came with me and was a very good boy! We had room service together every morning. I stayed in a Double Tree, and was all excited to try the famous Double Tree free warm cookies, but they have walnuts in them. GROSS. Haha! I don’t like nuts in my cookies, and for 310 calories, I’d rather have a nut-less cookie. However, Bennie loved running up and down the long hallways and getting toast from the magic room service people in the morning.
Tuesday morning I went to the 24 Hour Fitness near my hotel and did my first real elliptical session with being allowed to bend my toes. I did 45 minutes and then hit legs. I think I was tired and dehydrated to start with, but when I went to do squats, my quads kind of cramped up. After rolling out and mobility work, I did finish the workout, but was careful to use lighter weight than normal.
Wednesday morning I hopped in the pool and did 2000 meters. It took me 40 minutes and felt pretty good. The water in this pool is a little colder than my pool at home. It was so hard to get in it! After the swim I lifted chest and core.
Wednesday night my mom asked me if I would mind going to a store called Total Wine since they don’t live near one. This place is AMAZING. They have really good deals on wine & if you have a coupon – it is even better. We stocked up for both the folks and myself. Bennie enjoyed the ride in the cart haha.
Thursday’s workout was another 40 minutes on the elliptical, 20 mins on the bike and arms with core superset in between exercises. Do you want to know something funny? The elliptical totally made my calf muscles sore to the touch! I haven’t been using those running muscles for 5-6 weeks now, and I think they were like “hey hello!”
For lunch on Thursday, we went to a place called MOD Pizza that you MUST try if you live near. The entire pizza was 581 cals 96C/10F/25P – I got half the cheese to keep the fat lower. Seriously so so good!!
Friday morning I swam 3000 meters in 1 hour and 7 minutes. When I first started swimming, 3000 meters would take me a solid 85-90 minutes, so this is an improvement haha! I’m not very fast, but it is nice to see the speed go up a little. After the swim I hit shoulders since they don’t take very long and I needed to pack to go home (finally!).
Saturday morning I tried out the Alter-G treadmill. You can find a location/price by going to their website.
Friday you put on these shorts (over your normal running shorts), that have this tutu-like thing with a zipper on it.
Then, you step into the middle of the bubble, pull it up around you & zip the tutu around your waist to seal it. Then you push button to calibrate your weight. The machine calibrates to put you at what would be 100% weightlessness. For a brief second, your feet feel like they are going to lift off the ground, but the zipper tutu (yes, that is the technical term), holds you in place. Then you can start walking and decreasing the amount of weight you are feeling.
I started walking and waited until I was at 65% of my body weight to start running. I ran for 32 minutes and worked my way to 70% of my weight. Since this was my first time, I wanted to be conservative. It was such a cool experience!
I met my mom for lunch afterward and we were talking about how cool it would be to have an Alter-G right in your house. So I searched how much one costs…
Whoa! That is not cheap! Good thing you can rent time on them haha. They are pretty amazing tools for people with injuries though. The lady at the place I went also told them that they use the Alter-G to help people with prosthetic legs re-learn how to walk again.
I hope you all had a great week! Please make sure you go to my Instagram to check out the give away I will be doing this week!
