I can’t believe this was the last full week of training! The taper is such a funny thing. Now that I’ve cut my mileage and eased off, I am so sore and exhausted. Lots of runs where my legs feel heavy and I feel tired. I’m also fighting a cold that I hope will clear up by race day. Even still, this was a great week of running and I still enjoy every mile.
Tuesday – 3 recovery @ 9:05 & lifted chest/biceps/triceps and core work.
Thursday was a 3000 meter swim. I got to wear my cute new Betty Designs swimming suit too! I promised myself I would get a new swimming suit if I kept up with swimming through the whole marathon training cycle and I love it!
Friday – 8 miles at 7:44 average. I went out feeling pretty good and thought I’d run it at goal marathon pace. HA. I could not have hit goal marathon pace if you had PAID me. All the gunk in my head and nose flared up and I couldn’t breathe. It was dark, I had forgotten my head lamp and had to use my cell phone as a flash light (meaning I could only pump one arm). I tried to stay calm and not let this one run get me down on all his good consistent training. Of course it is disheartening to have the last “long run” before the race go badly, but it doesn’t take away the previous 16 weeks of work.
