After our wonderful time in Puno and Lake Titicaca, it was time to get back to sea level.
We were sitting in the airport and noticed this group of guys taking A TON of selfies. No judgement here, as selfie lover my self – but you couldn’t not notice them. My dad made the comment that they looked like a Peruvian version of N Sync…
It was bright inside the airport, of course they needed their sunglasses…They were all wearing matching jackets, so naturally I Googled what the wording on the jackets said: Carlos Alarcon – Genios – Y Sus Poderosos. They totally are a boy band! Check out their YouTube video here.
Ok – anyway!! We got to Lima around noon and started walking. We had really seen most of the attractions we wanted to see, so we decided to just wander a bit before lunch.
We used an awesome travel agent, Teresa Beall Expeditions, to help set up the trip. As a thank you, she had surprised us with lunch. So sweet! After that, we walked down to the water and the pier.
My dad and I also checked out some local city supermarkets. I love going to grocery stores in foreign countries. There is always something unique and different. For example – these tiny chicken eggs, which are not refrigerated, same as regular eggs – and both of which were right in the check out aisle next to the candy bars (or what I like to refer to as the impulse buying section).
One of our other walking tour stops was the Parque de Amor. It is right next to a bridge. We were told that it was put in because people kept commuting suicide off the bridge due to broken hearts. They have put up safety guards on the bridge since.
The next morning, our final day in Peru, was also their Independence Day AND the day they would swear their newer president into office. We started off with more walking. I was DELIGHTED to find a running store. Of course I had to go in to check out the gear.
We did one last souvenir shopping trip and decided to grab lunch. There is a really beautiful neighborhood near our hotel called Miraflores. We walked by a restaurant and saw it was packed.
I even had a big, beautiful slice of Chocolate Torta, because #vacation. It was SO good! I rarely eat straight up cake in the middle of the day. It felt indulgent and delicious and awesome haha! My dad was a champ and had a few bites so I didn’t eat alone.
After another 20-30 minutes of walking, we headed back to our hotel. Our flight leaves tonight/tomorrow morning at 1am, so we had done a late check out at the hotel and decided to repack and clean up. We had a little more time than planned, and I’ve been craving a run BAD – so I decided to do a quick 5k!
Perks of traveling with Dad? All. He and I are great travel buddies. He also upgraded us to 1st class on the plane and gave me his Kiehl’s lip balm samples from the plane! -#bestdadever
