I am a big sap for this YouTube Channel – The World Within. I always like listeningThat’s to these videos when I’m really struggling through part of a run.
My favorite part of this video is when he says, “Don’t look for the moon, look for the staircase that will take you there.” It is a good thing to remember, because the in and out, every day stuff isn’t going to get you the BHAG (big hairy a$$ goal) – it is all the small steps. No one is going to high five you for your easy runs where you feel like crap, and they are especially not going to clap you on the back for your cross training day. But all the stuff you do when no one is watching still counts!
Monday morning I did some speed work at the track. I wore a new pair of shoes with my orthotic inserts in them. By the end, my right foot was feeling a little ouchy – the left didn’t feel great either. So I thought maybe the inserts just didn’t fit well in the shoes. Tuesday, yesterday, my right foot was feeling tender on the top. I am terrified that I’ve re-fractured it, and hope that is not the case.
I went to my ART doctor, and he suggested icing it and getting an x-ray. I’ll give a few days off running as well. I have some doctor appointments coming up to see what I can find out.
I know that progress is never linear, and I hope this is just a minor set back. I have tried to do exactly what the doctor told me and be the best patient possible. It is always hard to not know what is going on with something. I am grateful to be able to lean on swimming, biking and lifting.
