How is everyone doing this morning? Are your wallets and bank accounts screaming in anguish? After Amazon Prime Day, Nordstrom Anniversary sale beginning, and a Lululemon sale – it was REALLY hard to be on the internet this week without doing some kind of online shopping. I did not take advantage of Prime Day, but John did and got an Instant Pot! Did you score? If yes, tell me what you got in the comments. (P.S. if you need help navigating the Nordstrom sale, you can check out my post here).
This is going to be the theme of my weekend:
“Oh – you want me to leave the house? In pants? And separate from Bennie The Dog?” NOPE. That’s a no go.
I got completely sucked into the book, “The Thousandth Floor” this week. I am pretty sure the audience is somewhere from pre-teen to teen, but I still enjoyed it. Judge me. I read insurance manuals all day, I deserve from brain candy. And yes, I pre-ordered the sequel. MORE judgement! That’s fine.
Something else I am planning to do this weekend is start researching Barcelona and the surrounding area. My folks are traveling there for their business, and I think John and I will be able to tag along which I am SO excited about! As I was web searching travel sites, I found a note I had put in my phone from back during the Boston marathon. I had been standing in line waiting to do bib pick up with this couple, and they told me about a running vacation they did with Rogue Expeditions. Basically it is a travel company that plans group running trips all over the world!
I knew it sounded cool right away, but it totally slipped my mind to search it. When I finally did this week I was totally sold. They have the whole thing planned out and they even include running routes with distances and what kind of shoes are needed for each day! What could be better?! Check out this one I found for Patagonia.
I am hoping I get into the Tokyo marathon next February, but if I don’t – maybe I will do one of these trips! (My mom is reading this blog post and dying a little inside.) It’s ok mom!
Speaking of travel, it was just one year ago that my dad and I got to go to Peru! It was such an amazing trip. I loved everything about it. Maybe even the most were our cocktail hours where we just got to hang out and chat in some amazing places!
Hopping to another random item with no transition – as is my writing style – I was looking for some kind of edible raw cookie dough that I could keep in my fridge and snack on. I like a little something sweet after dinner, so a mini peanut butter cup is usually my go to, but cookie dough was sounding really good.
I found this stuff from EatPastry at Whole foods and OMG it is delicious! It is vegan, too. My friend tried it and thought it tasted like alcohol or fake sugar, but I didn’t notice that at all. To me it tasted exactly like cookie dough.
The container said it had 28 servings in it, but I ate the whole thing in two days. Surely there was a missing decimal point? 2.8 servings has to be correct. So much for the snacking. On a serious note though, there would have been a time when I would have been really upset about eating more of the cookie dough than I planned. I would have restricted food for the next week, I would have gone and worked out again, and I would have beat myself down mentally. But now I just move on with my day, don’t beat myself up and drink a little extra water if I am feeling bloated. I acknowledge that maybe I lost a little control with that particular food, eating it even though I was no longer hungry, but I try to view it as a learning opportunity instead of a mistake. It took a lot of hard work to get to this point, but I am happier and healthier for it. And you know what? I didn’t gain any weight. Sometimes I think the cortisol we add to our systems stressing about food is worse than the overeating itself.
I have 14 miles easy in the morning and I already know it is going to be hard to peel myself out of bed, but I know I will make the choice to run every time. Whenever I am feeling like I don’t want to go run, I just tell myself that I don’t have to. Just don’t go. Skip it. And sure enough, overwhelmingly, my immediate reaction is, “not go?! Absolutely not!” I figure if I ever do think that skipping sounds like a great idea, then I probably need the rest day anyway.
What do you have on tap?
