You came back for another dose of complete Friday randomness! Thank you, you beautiful human, you!!
I have recently decided I need new ways to do my hair. Since I am refusing to cut it at the moment, I need to learn some news ways to put it up. That is girl logic for you ladies & gentleman. Refuse to cut hair, complain about hair being long and always in my face. Makes perfect sense. So I recently started trying some fun braids and dos from Twist Me Pretty. Her videos are AWESOME! Below is the one I used to do a dutch braid that I then braided into the rest of my hair for my last race. It certainly did not help me be faster LOL, but it looked good!
Newest book – I am all over the place with books lately. I went from reading about the history of the Boston Marathon, to The Zookeeper’s Wife, to Jim Gaffigan’s “Food: A Love Story.” The latest is “The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck.” I love someone with a sense of humor, and I like swear words a little too much, so this book was for me. It’s also full of very quotable, relatable gems.
“What determines your success isn’t, “What do you want to enjoy?” The relevant question is, “What pain do you want to sustain?” The path to happiness is a path full of shitheaps and shame.” If that’s not a quote built for a marathoning Instagrammer, I don’t know what is.
Would it be a Friday Favorites if I didn’t mention something Lululemon? I pretty much live in the Align pant. It is the most comfortable legging of all time. They aren’t the best for running though. I mean, I run in them, but they aren’t ideal. If you want to feel held in, they definitely don’t do that. But mostly they don’t really have pockets. The Fast & Free tight is the Align pant of running tights though. The fabric is a little different, but still super silky soft and doesn’t cut into my waist. And there are pockets galore. Dammit Lulu.
The next one I have to give my mom credit for – the Nextdoor App. When you sign up, you put in you address and it hooks you up with your neighborhood. There are classifieds for selling things, you can also list things that you just want to get rid of. I needed to get rid of my old couch (it was NOT sellable), and posted it on there and within hours it was gone. I needed moving boxes, and my mom saw a listing for someone who was done moving and wanted to get rid of theirs. It is like a friendlier, less murdery version of Craigslist. I mean, there could be people on there up to no good, so you still have to be careful. But overall I’ve had great experiences with it.
And lastly, as we head into Labor Day weekend, you know the dark mornings are coming back. Yes, it will be back to the treadmill soon. So sad. BUT – in the event you are going to run outside, I would definitely recommend Sabre pepper spray. Yes, I totally understand that it might not work, or that there could be other problems with it. That said, I know I feel better when I have it when it is dark out. Maybe that is overkill, but I don’t care. It’s super discrete with the little handheld strap, so it isn’t a big deal to hold while I run.
And with that, let’s get this Labor Day weekend going! I have 22 miles tomorrow with some marathon paced miles in there, and I am so excited to see how I do!
Do you carry any safety devices while running?
Long run, racing, short run, bike ride, resting? What is on deck for you this weekend?
