This week has flown by! I have so loved having the ritual of running back in my life again. I am still supplementing my “cardio activity” with some elliptical, but plan on tapering that off soon. I definitely plan to keep swimming as a part of my training. It is such good cross training without tearing your body apart.
Monday I did 30 minutes of intervals on the elliptical and lifted chest and did a core workout. After that I drove to the track to run 3 miles. I just ran these by effort and ended up with a 7:55 average.
Tuesday I did 40 minutes of the step mill. I haven’t done the step mill in a LONG time and I forgot how damn hard it is haha! It always makes me work like crazy. I lifted legs and did core work again. Lifting legs AFTER the step mill was tough – but I like stacking workouts like that together to build endurance in my muscles. For the times when I’m getting tired in long runs, I am hoping it will prevent me losing my form.
Wednesday I did the elliptical intervals again and lifted back and core work. I try to do core work three times a week. I find it tedious and hard haha! So sometimes I just do the first three days of the week to get it out of the way. Yes, it would be better to space it out, but it is better than it not getting done at all, right?! After that I drove to a trail and ran 4 miles easy effort.
Thursday I started with another round on the elliptical and lifted upper body. Then drove to the track to run 3 miles – speed/progression. My legs were still sore from legs on Tuesday, so I was worried I wouldn’t be able to accomplish the speed part or the negative splits. I was really excited when my watch beeped 7:46 for the first mile, then 7:30, and 7:12 for the last mile, and didn’t feel too gassed at the end.
Can M. Train do anything wrong? This song is fire. Just like “No.”
I love this Cinco de Mayo themed tacos to running ratio.
Friday morning I did a 3000 meter recovery swim. Legs were sore from the speedier run and mileage from the week, upper body sore from lifting, so the swim a welcome change.
This morning I swam 2000 meters and then ran 5 miles at a 7:46 avg – 8:30/8:00/7:30/7:30/7:00. It was tough – but also felt so good!
And now I’m headed off to the city for some fun!
