I was so touched to open this package from the wonderful people at Vital Proteins. They sent Bennie The Dog and I care package for National Dog Day!! Like what?! Doesn’t get better than that. Bennie inhaled that dog doughnut. I tried the mixed berry collagen in my smoothie and it was awesome. I use the regular unflavored in my coffee every day and it has made a big difference in my nails and hair.
Sunflowers are still out in the grocery stores and it makes me happy every time I see them. I wish I could grow some in my yard, but I think I would actually have to put effort into that, so I guess I don’t want to do it that much haha.
Also fig season. Can’t eat enough of them. They are like candy. Ok, not like Sour Patch Kids, but they are still really good. I have been a fan of eating them with peanut butter. (What don’t I like eating with peanut butter?) If I eat one or two in the afternoon with peanut butter I don’t get hungry until dinner, which is very helpful with not snacking so much. Incorporating more fats in my diet has definitely helped me feel better throughout the day too.
It is easy to fear eating fat because it is so calorically dense. But the quantity does seem to take care of itself when you are mindful of the quality. So I try to keep that in mind.
I know summer is coming to a close here soon, but I still have to tell you about this one piece. I am generally not a fan of one pieces. I have a short waist and am pretty straight shaped (not much of a waist), so I usually prefer bikinis. But this one has a really cute sheer panel in the front and the seaming makes it super flattering.
And lastly, I had to report back on my jeans dilemma. If you follow me on Instagram, you might remember me saying that I was struggling with all of my jeans because of the “ankle length” trend. With runner calves, it was like my calves where actually pulling my jeans down off my butt because the ankle length was awkward. And my calves felt claustrophobic. So I found these and they are so comfy and LONG ENOUGH!! Hallelujah.
I also want you guys to know that I thought/typed/said calves so many times in trying to write this blog post that the word now sounds distorted to me. And then I started wondering if calves (like the baby animal) was actually the correct pluralization of calf (like the body part). Don’t worry – I looked it up, we’re ok.
I have a half marathon this weekend – I am running 2 miles before, 13.1 during, and 5 miles after – which will come to a total of 20.1 for the day. I am so excited! I love racing. I also really like this race. I set my current PR (1:38 and change) on this course last year, but I don’t know that I am in a place to top that this year. Which is ok, because the focus is Chicago!
Fig fans? Where you at?
Racing, long run, or resting this weekend? All are equally good and important!!
