May 1st! When did almost half this year go by? My new job started in the end of March and I’m starting to feel more settled. With that and getting back to running, I’m feeling much less unsettled in life haha!
Last week I did 2 minutes walking alternating with 2 minutes running, as well as the Alter-G. This week I got to do my first real running since February 29th. It felt so good!
Monday I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and lifted chest, back and core. Then I drove to a running path where there is soft dirt to run on, and did 2 miles at an 8:47 pace. I took it really slow and easy, and was nervous the whole time. My foot was ok though, and it was great to be running consistently, instead of stopping every two minutes. (Up until this week, I have been doing the 2 minutes walking/2 minutes running program.)
Monday afternoon, I went to my ART (active release therapy) doctor. He worked on the tendons and muscles in my foot and calf. They are doing ok, but get easily fatigued after not being used for so long. I really want to take this comeback slowly and carefully, so he has been very helpful in getting my foot and calf some extra TLC.
Tuesday I swam for 3000 meters in 1:05:22. I played around with doing 500 meter intervals, and practiced doing the freestyle/front crawl stroke. When I first started swimming, I was told not to flutter my feet because the fractured metatarsal on the top didn’t need any extra pressure put on it, so I did the breast stroke/froggie paddle. Well now that I CAN swim other ways, I can’t HAHA. It is hard!!
Wednesday I went to the gym and did 30 minutes on the elliptical, legs, glutes and core work. Then again two miles. This time it felt much easier, and things clicked faster. I wished the two miles weren’t up when it was time to stop, and felt like I could keep going.
Wednesday afternoon my foot was hurting quite a bit. I freaked that I had overdone it, and just about lost it. Ok – I did lose it. Thank you Mom and my friend Kindal for talking me off the ledge haha! I iced my foot and rested it, and it felt fine that by night.
Thursday I did another swim. This one took me a little longer (1:07:05). I didn’t sleep well (you can read the story of why on my Instagram post) Wednesday night and just felt unmotivated. I just wanted it to be over the whole time haha! I have those workouts every once in a while. Sometimes I will have a few days of them. I have gotten good at not being hard on myself and actually being proud of myself for doing the workout when I didn’t feel like going to the gym/run/lift/whatever at all.
Friday morning I did another 30 minutes on the elliptical (cannot wait until I don’t have to do that anymore – so boring), then lifted arms, shoulders and core. I drove to a running path again, but for 3 miles this time.
As I was running, a youngish looking deer came out of the bushes and ran next to me for about a half mile. It was so cool haha!! It was barely trotting along like it took no effort at all haha. I wished I could have snapped a photo, but didn’t want to get out my phone and scare it away.
This time the three miles felt great and my pace was 8:07 average. Bennie waited for me in the car while I ran, then I let him out to play for a little bit. He loves sniffing (and marking) every single thing.
Saturday morning I did a 2500 meter swim and then drove to a track for another 3 miles. I felt really nervous about doing runs two days back to back, so I wanted the second run to be on a squishy, springy track. It felt good though, and afterward I came home and iced and rolled out.
Bring on rest day! All my running muscles are waking up after not being used for 8 weeks and they are SORE haha.
