I’ve been having to modify my marathon training plan to let my knee (keep) healing. It has been frustrating, but it seems like patience is key here. So below is what I have planned, and how I’m going to modify it to make it work for my injury:
Monday – 3 miles hills with chest, shoulders and core work
Tuesday – 6 miles with physical therapy exercises and legs
Wednesday – 3 miles with biceps/triceps and core
Thursday – 6 miles with back and physical therapy exercises
Friday – cross train and core
Saturday – 12 miles with physical therapy exercises
The modification comes in where I have knee pain. The medical advice I have been given so far has been to run until it hurts, then stop. So I am utilizing the elliptical trainer/zero gravity machine to make for the extra time missed. My hope it to keep my aerobic fitness up this way.
Most importantly, I’m trying to remember that I’m young and need to let my knee heal. My body will bounce back into running shape it was in if I keep my fitness level overall.
Counting the days! Also if anyone out there has experience with cortisone shots, I would love to hear it!
