Happy Super Bowl Sunday! I hope you had lots of fun festivities today – whether you are a football fan or not.
Here is what my week of training looked like:
Monday: As usual, speed work! I went to a track to do this. I normally do speed work sessions on the tread mill, but I found a track that isn’t too dark in the morning and decided to give it a try. Honestly I assumed that I would be slower than I normally am on the treadmill, because I was thinking maybe I use the treadmill to push myself. However, this was NOT the case. I was really surprised. I did 800s at my paces were 3:12, 3:07, 3:08, 3:06 and 3:13 – each had 800 recovery in between. With a 1 mile warm up and 1 mile cool down – it made for an average of 7 miles at 8:40. I did this workout fasted and sipped on BCAAs in between.
Tuesday I hit legs and glutes pretty hard. I really want to be able to squat more and am incorporating different types of squats (front squats) and have also started switching up dead lifts. I warmed up with 20 minutes on the step mill, hit legs & glutes and cooled down with 20 minutes on the bike.
I made this big skillet dinner for John and I on Tuesday night. Shrimps, chicken sausage, zucchini, peppers and onions. I added in tomato paste, chicken stock and spices. It was really good if I do say so myself..
Wednesday morning was tempo time. I STRUGGLED the entire run to hit my paces. I did this work out fasted and I do think I would have benefited from having a gel or sports drink before. I just felt depleted and had a hard time hanging with it. I did hit my 7:20 pace for the middle 6 miles (with 1 mile warm up & cool down), but it was not my normal effort level.
Thursday – 20 minute warm up on the step mill, chest and shoulders, then biceps and triceps, 20 minute cool down on the bike. It felt really good to get a good lift in after the previous day’s tempo struggle.
Friday – I moved my long run to Friday instead of the usual Saturday so that I could run with Fleet Feet on Saturday morning. Like I mentioned in my Friday Favorites post – whenever I move my long run to Friday, I am so happy to have it out of the way before the weekend. On the other hand, I have total FOMO (fear of missing out) when I watch everyone else posting about their long runs the rest of the weekend. Haha! I did 16 miles at 8:40 average with about 1,000 elevation gain. I kept the pace easy and relaxed. I listened to podcasts and sipped on water from my hydration pack. I had some sports beans to start and a gel at mile 8. My stomach was GROWLING by the time I was done though haha. Next time I would like to try GenUCan. Any one else use this?
Friday I got my first ever real massage in the afternoon. I got it for free because I did a package of 10 appointments with my chiropractor. OMG. I’m kind of sad I did it, because now I know how nice they are HAHA! It felt awesome. Followed up by pizza & wine for dinner – #bestdayever.
Movie in the Redbox case was “Burnt.” I was unimpressed.
Saturday I went to run with Fleet Feet in the city. I have never run with a running group before and was a bit nervous. I almost copped out at the last second, but I’m SO glad I went. It was so so much fun & the 5.63 miles flew by and didn’t even care about ending on an uneven number.
You can see me in the middle of the “0”!
It was a Super Bowl themed run since we ran by some of the “Super Bowl 50s” in San Francisco. They had Bronco & Panther themed cupcakes and coffee after the run as well. I met some really fun people who I hope to run with again soon.
Thank you Fleet Feet!
I get asked all the time about my shoes – which and why I picked them. Honestly though, every foot is different. Fleet Feet has some really amazing people working for them that can help you pick a shoe for YOUR foot and YOUR stride. If you have a Fleet Feet near you – which you probably do, there are locations everywhere – I would recommend paying them a visit.
Today – Sunday – has been a rest day. I did some core work while watching super bowl commercials, I cleaned the house – which is exhausting in and of itself, and I took Bennie for a long walk. The weather this week has been crazy beautiful.
My most recent recipe obsession are these waffles from my coach, Katie (check out her website – she is a certified BA). The macros are seriously so awesome and they taste LEGIT. I smeared mine with Nuttzo, Lily’s chocolate chips & sugar free syrup. Way too good.
My phone screen wouldn’t fit in the macros for the sugar free syrup, chocolate chips & Nuttzo – but they ARE included in the totals. I mean, RIGHT?
Don’t forget if you want to try Nuttzo, my discount code is Kyle-20 for 20% off.
Did the team you wanted win the Super Bowl?
