Happy Valentine’s day lovelies! I hope you are all having a great day – whether you have a significant other or not – treat yourself & enjoy 🙂
I am getting so antsy to race again! My next half marathon is 3/6 in my home town, Chico! I can’t wait. I loved everyone’s racing posts from the LA marathon this weekend. And of course – this now iconic picture:

These women are just so awesome. I am so in awe of their talent! I would just love to be a professional athlete and be paid to train, recover, cook, eat and repeat all day. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t pretend I was racing with them during my run on Saturday HAHA. Tell me I am not the only one that does this!
As for me, this week was a “deload” week – as prescribed by my Coach, Katie – check out her website here. We wanted to be careful with aches and pains & let my system kind of hit reset. So that meant going easy on mileage – which of course is not my favorite haha! Luckily I had some good lifts to distract me.
Monday: I had the choice of HIIT or speed work for about 30 minutes. I ended up doing speed work (this was a no contest choice for me). 1 mile warm up at 8:30, 800s at 3:05, 2:55, 3:01 with 800 cool down after each one – and 1 cool down mile – total of 5 miles at 7:37 average. Pretty pleased with that 2:55!! I did this workout fasted & sipped on BCAAs.
Tuesday was leg day. I did 20 minutes warm up on the step mill, then hit legs, glutes and a 15 minute Nike Training Club ab circuit. I hit 100lbs on squats – which was big for me. Total wimpy weight for most people haha! I am working my way up in weight slowly and safely after my various knee injuries.
Wednesday was an easy run day instead of my normal tempo. 3 easy paced miles followed by drills and more core work.
Also on Wednesday – I tested out the Oh Yeah Birthday Cake Bar that it seems everyone on Instagram is going on about these days. It was definitely tasty – but I think from all the build up I had heard from other people, I was expecting it to be something more. So I was a tad disappointed. It also got white crumbs ALL over my black pencil skirt and they didn’t just brush off easily. Said skirt was immediately covered in white crud and will now have to be dry cleaned. Lame HAHA.
Thursday was a big upper body lift. Shoulders, chest and back. I was so so sore from this until about Saturday. On days that I don’t run, I like to take my time with the weights. I am usually STARVING after a big lifting session like this too.
Friday I did 4 easy miles at an 8:12 average. I went to one of my favorite running spots by the water & the sunrise was awesome. Then I drove over to my gym and hit biceps and triceps.
Saturday was a progression run – 7 miles at a 7:26 average and the final 5k in 21 minutes. I was feeling ready to play with speed after the easy week.
Apparently this was the week of selfies.
Saturday during the day, John and I got to spend some time with his family at Point Reyes Station. We took Bennie with us too. We had brunch and did some walking around.
Saturday night, I made my Lazy Turkey Lasagna – recipe here.
Today is rest day & that meant a lazy Sunday morning with coffee in bed and breakfast at home. Peanut butter and banana toast with granola on top is seriously SO GOOD. Just try it and thank me later.
My mom and dad surprised me with the beautiful bracelet I blogged about a couple of Fridays ago & a sweet box of Valentine’s goodies. Complete with cards for Bennie The Dog, of course. The bracelet was such an unexpected surprise & so so cool in person!
John did really good for Valentine’s day – he told me got me a box of chocolates. I was kind of surprised by that. If you know me well, I am not usually the person you would find with a box of chocolates in my house. Then he handed me a box of chocolate QUEST BARS! HAHA! So perfect. Good work, boyfriend, very good work.
And as you can see, I haven’t taken the bracelet off since it came in the mail.
I got very lucky with the people in my life! I hope you all had a great week too.
