My good friend Melissa came to visit me this weekend. We went to college together and have been close ever since. I lived in Portland after I graduated college, and that is where Melissa lives.
I picked her up on Friday night and we went back to my house for wine and girl talk. Both of us had gotten up early that morning, so we called it a night after that.
Saturday morning, we went on a thift store mission. I am traveling for work this week, and one of the nights of our trip, we have a prom themed dinner. I wanted to find a crazy outlandish prom dress, but the thrift stores were completely cleaned out.
Naturally, we brunched after the hike. Bennie approved of this spot, instead of being on the ground. The people at the table next to us thought it was funny that he sat there like a little human. Pretty sure he thinks that’s normal haha!
We made an emergency trip to a costume store (thank goodness Halloween is around the corner) – since I couldn’t find a prom dress, I got wings, a feather boa, and a tiara – I figure I can be the prom fairy LOL.
Then it was time for tacos and margaritas! The tortillas were made of jicama, which was tasty but so messy.
After I dropped Melissa off at the airport, I went home and packed for my work trip. My flight leaves at 7:00 am this morning, so it meant a 2:30 am run. I know that seems crazy – but it is important to me to get my run in. I won’t have time to do it once land, or even tonight. So I just made it work. Obviously it is not ideal, and at a certain point, lack of sleep will actually detract from your workout. However, as a rare occurrence, sometimes you just have to do what you can.
I heard this quote the other day, “You can’t complain about having a lot on your plate when you left goal is to eat.” I love it because it is a good reminder to me that pressure is a privilege. The goals and aspirations I have come from a place of choice and I feel lucky every day to be able to pursue those things.
