Home sweet home! Traveling to new places and having new adventures is one of my most favorite things. It is only made better by returning home to your routine and your DOG. Haha!
After a flight delay (surprise, surprise) on our flight home, we got back to town Friday evening. My folks dropped my off and my house, and after some celebratory pizza, they drove home. Naturally, the first thing I did when I woke up on Saturday and lace up and RUN!
6 miles outside my front door almost fartlek style. I just ran fast when I wanted and slow when I wanted to catch my breath.
This was followed up immediately by coffee, egg white omelette, and NUT BUTTER TOAST!! UGH YUM!! Not a single hotel we stayed at in Peru had peanut butter of any kind and I was craving it lol. Of course, I was so busy eating all the other wonderful foods in Peru it didn’t matter one bit.
Saturday night, John and I went to the Star Trek movie and he was starving after, so we drove through A&W. I got a soft serve vanilla ice cream that I shared with my favorite four legged soul.
Look at that tail go!
Sunday morning John & I went for a trail run. You guys, this was pretty much my first real trail run ever haha! I can hardly believe it myself. We ran/walked about 6 miles. It was beautiful and a blast.
This was followed by an unpictured brunch that I inhaled too fast for a picture haha!
The San Francisco marathon was today, and I’m not gonna lie – I was really tempted to run one of the halves! But I know I played it smart. Chicago is the big goal here, not just racing all the time.
I feel really well rested and really excited to keep training. I’ve gotten a couple questions/comments about this – and no, the scale didn’t move at all, my fitness doesn’t feel compromised. I indulged and ate whatever I wanted – bread, wine, Pisco Sours, Inka corn, ceviche, chocolate cake. We walked a lot. We ate really WELL. Delicious food made of fresh ingredients. The wheels aren’t going to fall off in two weeks. It’s ok and, in my opinion, necessary to take a break sometimes.
I’ve got a big week of training ahead and I’m so excited! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
