When I was in college, my school would host “Parent’s Weekend.” My parents and I have never stopped this tradition, even 7 years after I’ve graduated ha! I love getting to hang with them. We had dinner at the cutest neighborhood restaurant on Friday night. Their porch is the best.
As you know from my weekly recap, I got to share some miles with my dad Saturday morning as part of my run.
For the running shoes, we went to San Francisco Running Company. As much as I love online shopping, I think getting a new pair of running shoes is always done better in person. Of course, if you know what you like and are comfortable with what your feet need, I’m all for online shopping. For shopping in store, these are my rules of thumb to follow:
- Tell the person in the store where you are currently at in your running journey. Number of miles per week, types of workouts you are doing the most, where you are running the most (trail, road, treadmill, etc)
- Also be sure to tell them your goals. Are you training for something new? Just beginning to run on a consistent basis? Wanting to go from road to trail?
- If you have a pair of shoes you like, bring them with you. Sometimes the way the tread is worn can also help the person you are working with.
- Run in the shoes you try on. Most any running store should be more than happy to let you run around the block, or if they have a treadmill – hop on for a quick test run. Hopefully they will also watch you run as well.
My dad settled on a pair on Hokas and I am so excited for him!
Speaking of shopping – we played the Powerball Lotto and were very unsuccessful.
Dinner came with the biggest plate of fries I’ve ever seen (not complaining). A very good burger on a baguette bun. Baguette as a bun is a very good call.
Neither are particularly flattering of me – but I love them anyway. The top photo was this weekend and the bottom photo was from 2010, two nights after I have brought Bennie home. In the bottom photo, I think he looks like he’s thinking, “wtf is going on?” – and in the top photo he looks like he knows that’s exactly where he belongs. Haha!
Sunday we grabbed breakfast at a dinner in Sausalito called the Lighthouse Cafe. It reminded me of the diner reviews Hollie (Fueled By Lolz) does.
I went for a simple bagel with lox that was very tasty.
And Bennie and I got a little vitamin D. The rest of Sunday was spent grocery shopping, prepping some food to have ready for this crazy week, and working.
What is your favorite running shoe?
Do you like diners? Go to order?
