Happy Monday everyone! I’ll post a full race recap as soon as the race posts pictures. BUT – update on the rest of the weekend first.
Friday my folks came into town. They came to visit for the race, but also because they don’t live very far away, there is a lot to do in the city & we all have fun doing that as a family.
Not wearing running clothes!
We went to try out Causwells Friday night. It is a tiny restaurant, so if you are thinking about going, I would recommend making reservations. I wanted to go because their cheeseburger is on a lot of food bloggers’ top ten burger lists. Cheeseburgers are one of my all time favorite foods!
To me, it did not disappoint. I don’t care for onion rings, so the giant pile of onion strings it came with didn’t do a whole lot for me. That said, with such a decadent burger, it isn’t like you really needed fries to go with. John, on the other hand, wasn’t super impressed. So let me know what you think if you go try it out! We also ordered their hush puppies, house made ricotta with honey & creole shrimp. For dessert, we tried both their Pot de Creme & the All Star Donut bread pudding. They were both SUPER tasty!
Side note – I am currently working on leaning out a little bit by doing a mini cut. So I did track all weekend. I plan meals out ahead of time so that I can enjoy the food, not stress, and not have my nose in MyFitnessPal trying to calculate macros at the table. For the day before the race, and race day, I kept caloric intake the same as the cut, but shift the macro percentages around for higher carb to support running and recovery.
Saturday morning, I met my parents at Mel’s Drive In and we did some shopping at REI. I got my usual when eating out (for breakfast) – egg white omelet with spinach & mushrooms, no cheese, dry wheat toast & fruit instead of hashbrowns/potatoes.
After shopping, we went to the California Academy of Sciences. The museum is right near where they were setting up for the race. I haven’t been since I was very very little, and it was a lot of fun to go as an adult.
We checked out the rainforest…
And all of their other exhibits. The penguins were, of course, a lot of fun to watch, but you aren’t allowed to take their picture. They also have an albino alligator. He/she is beautiful, but almost looks fake haha!
I had a quest bar after a museum and a banana with peanut butter later in the afternoon. We went to my favorite Italian restaurant in San Francisco, Trattoria Contadina, for dinner. We got to meet the wonderful owners who are expecting their first baby – a girl to be named Betty. They are the sweetest people and further cemented my love for their restaurant. After dinner, John and I walked back home and my mom & dad walked back to their hotel. It wasn’t too cold, and not much fog, so the views from the top of Nob Hill area were amazing.
Sunday morning, I did the 15k, and after, we went to brunch at Sweet Maple. More on all that later! Sunday afternoon & evening, John & I relaxed with Bennie The Dog and got Blue Barn for dinner. I got the Spicy Tuna Salad.
What did you guys do this weekend?
