Happy Monday everyone! I am feeling rested up and ready to kick some butt this week. Do I wish it was 4 days instead of 5? Yes. But instead I am choosing to be thankful for a great job to go to every day. Like most things, it is all about perspective, right?
Monday was a challenging workout. I was nervous about hitting my paces, but I did it! That is such a good feeling. 2 mile warm up, 2 x 3.5 miles at a goal pace of 7:15-7:25 (1st set – 7:18/7:19/7:15/7:10 and 2nd set – 7:26/7:11/7:24/7:08), 3 mins standing/walking in between the two sets, 1 mile cool down. Total of 10 miles at 7:45 average.
I fought to get in a rhythm on the second set – I would either be too fast or too slow. I did eventually settle into a rhythm, but only for abut the last mile and a half. I still felt good about keeping steady and getting the paces, even if they were a little choppy.
Tuesday was 4 miles easy at a 8:49 average pace. I hit the gym after for a strength workout:
3X: 10 thrusters & 10 burpees
3X: 15 single arm landmine press & 30 sec plank
3X: 20 walking lunges, 10 burpees, 10 push ups
3X: tricep rope pulls and rope ab pulls
3X: 15 flys, 15 lat raises & 10 tricep kickbacks
3X: 20 banded walks & 20 glute bridges
Thursday was 3000 yard swim, which took me 1 hr 03 mins 14 seconds. I felt especially sluggish, but the swim always makes me feel so good. It was one of those mornings when I didn’t feel like leaping out of bed and crushing my workout. But I don’t think you have to be super motivated every day. Some days the routine is most important and just getting out there is what counts.
Friday was 6 miles easy at 8:47 average. I did ran outside in the city, and came back to John’s house. I knocked out a body weight workout. I think these kinds of workouts are so great for runners because you can do them anywhere. I do strength work 3X a week, but I don’t always need a gym to do it.
3 rounds: 30 air squats, 10 plyo jumping lunges, 10 burpees, 10 pike push ups
8 x 25 core exercises
Fire hydrants, bird dogs, glute bridge
The weather sneaked up on me and it was a warm morning in the city. Unheard of. I also immediately got a tan line from wearing just the sports bra outside. My watch tan has gotten very distinct, very quickly this summer.
Saturday was a 16 mile long run, first 8 miles easy, then alternating 1 & 2 min surges (5k effort) with 5 mins easy between for remainder. My friend Jillian and I did the first 12 together. We started at 5:30 and were rewarded with a beautiful sunrise.
We ended up at her car after 12 miles, so then I only 4 miles left to go. Which is really just two, 2 mile runs. It helps to mentally break up long runs like that for me. It keeps me from getting tired and keeps me focused.
That wrapped up my week at 41 miles. I also threw in this ab workout a few times in the evening (25 reps of each):
- Legs out
- Russian twists
- Full body crunch
- 30 second plank
- Toe touches
- Side plank knee drive
- Bird dogs
- Fire hydrant
- Glute bridge
After my long run I made a bowl of oatmeal and painted my not so pretty runner toenails for the wedding John & I were going to later that day. I also made a big lunch of chicken, rice and a huge bowl of edamame covered in salt. I wolfed the entire thing down. I have been craving salty foods like crazy lately.
I got a lot of questions about my wedding outfit, so the details are posted below. My dress was only $88 and comes in a ton of different colors. I love that it shows off your shoulders and neck without being too tight and clingy.
I need to get a cuff or something to cover up my watch tan line. For this outfit I decided to wear black shoes so it would kind of tie in (???) my black watch. Not sure if that really worked, but I went for it haha!
At dinner afterward, they had this delicious beet risotto. I am not a fan of beets, but this was DELICIOUS! I need this recipe so that I can eat them more often. I know people find ways to put the in smoothies and all kinds of creative things. I am just a bit lazy/creature of habit with my meals. I found a recipe for it here.
Have you ever made something delicious with beets?
Do you get crazy tan lines in the summer?
Salty or sweet?
