This was my last week of traveling after being gone for Christmas and New Year’s. Even though neither of those trips was anything but fun, great times and relaxing – somehow my body was feeling the travel regardless. Being a conference doesn’t it make it easier for me personally. So much sitting and not eating my normal foods, not getting enough sleep, ect. I tried my best to give myself a break as much as possible.
Monday was a day I could sleep in a little bit until 7:00 am. I drank coffee and worked a little before I ran. I didn’t wake up hungry, so I didn’t even think about having something to eat before starting my run at 8:30. Bad move. After my first 90 second pick up, I was feeling light headed and crappy. My plan was to do 10 x 90 second pick ups at about a 6:40 pace. I adjusted my pace down to a 7:30 for the pick ups after the first two. 6 miles total at 8:14 average. I did a full body lift after.
Tuesday was a 2500 meter swim. Getting in the water felt so good and helped me feel renewed again. I did 5 sets of 500 meters – breast stroke, flippers, pull buoy and sculling paddles, flippers, and free style.
Wednesday was another run with pick ups 8 x 90 second pick ups at 6:40 pace. 6 miles total at 8:21 average. The hotel we were in for the conference actually had a really nice gym with a lot of free weights and even a lot of weight machines. I made sure to take full advantage of that.
Thursday was a steady state easy zone 1 run for an hour an 15 minutes. 8 miles at 9:28 average.
Friday I flew again and took a rest day from running. I lifted weights before I took off.
Saturday was a shake out run before my race. 2 miles easy with 5 x 30 second pick ups at a 7-7:30 pace.
Sunday was race day. Recap coming soon 🙂
What I ate in a day while traveling:
Breakfast – I got the airport a little early, so I had time to have a sit down breakfast. Egg white omelette, with mushrooms and spinach, no cheese. Dry whole wheat toast that I put a little butter on.
Didn’t eat the potatoes – had a couple, but wasn’t hungry after the eggs & toast.
Lunch was a big salad from the airport. It came with a roll which I ate, and I got a big bottle of water to go with. I try really hard to keep drinking water when I travel, even though it is my gut reaction not to so that I don’t have to hold it haha!
Dinner was at the conference and was from a buffet. I got rice and beans, chicken and steak and on tortilla. I got lettuce with a little bit of vinaigrette. I skipped the cheese, sour cream and guac since the chicken and steak were likely cooked in oil.
Next morning at the hotel buffet I got scrambled eggs and steel cut oatmeal with berries. I did get some potatoes because I was craving them so much! So I got a few just to enjoy and get rid of the craving.
