You know how Facebook does that thing where it shows you what you posted 1, 2, 3 years ago? One year ago I posted this photo.
NO NO NO. I wasn’t in better shape a year ago. That pace is not easy enough. I may have thought it was easy, but you really need to go way easy on your easy days. That should be at least 1-2 minutes slower than race pace or zone 1 if you know your heart rate zones. It is amazing how much you can continue to learn.
Anyway, onto the recap!
Monday was a rest day. I was still very sore and hobbling around. I didn’t even worry too much about stretching and foam rolling at that point. I did take an epsom salt bath.
Bicep curls 3 x 15, superset with chest press 3 x 15
Tricep kick back 3 x 20, superset with hammer curl 3 x 12
Three times through: plank 30 seconds, 50 bicycles, 20 toe touches
Thursday I slept in. I an an optional workout from my coach, so I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I ended up feeling like an easy run that afternoon. 4 miles at 9:25 average and another short strength circuit. It was a nice sunny afternoon when I ran!
Bent over rows 3 x 10 at 20 lbs, super set with shoulder press 3 x 10
Barbell rows 3 x 12, superset with upright rows 3 x 15
30 second plank, 30 Russian twists with 10lb plate, 30 second side plank each side
My right hamstring had also felt cranky and tight during my run on Thursday, so I went to Active Release Therapy. My doc broke the news that he’s moving out of state! So sad. I’m happy for him, but bummed for myself haha!
Saturday was 5 miles on the trails. When I woke up it was raining pretty steadily out and I thought about skipping the run all together or driving to the gym for the treadmill. I ended up deciding to put on my cold weather gear and go for it. So so glad I did! I went very slow, as not to slip on anything and get hurt, or bother my hamstring again.
For now I’m going to take it easy and enjoy some down time before training for the Boston marathon gears up. My boyfriend had knee surgery this week, so I have been taking care of him and this weekend has been very low key. (The surgery was to correct some frayed cartilage and went very well. He’s recovering very fast.) Bennie The Dog has definitely enjoyed the down time at home!
