All the Vitamin D were are getting in Northern California has been fabulous lately! I have been buying cute dresses all winter whenever I see a good one for a good price. This is because every year, Spring rolls around and there are all kinds of fun events to go to. Weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, birthdays – somehow the beautiful weather just seems to make people want to celebrate things. I end up getting invited and then inevitably can’t find a cute dress in time, so I end up spending a ton of money just to feel confident in my outfit. So this year I decided I would buy dresses when I found them, even if I didn’t have a specific event that I needed the dress for.
Watch – because Murphy’s Law, now there won’t be events that I need to dress up for. But who cares! I’ll plan my own event. Or look really cute going out to dinner.
Before we get into dresses, I have to show you guys the awesome singlet from Tracksmith that I got! They release a special one for Boston Qualifiers each year and it is just beautiful. The fabric has tiny rabbits all over it, and the silk blue sash across the front is a really pretty deep blue. I don’t think I will race in it at Boston because (a) I think a bunch of people are going to do that, and I kind of want to feel unique and (b) I think my red shirt that I’ve been racing in might be a teeny bit easier to spot.
I talked about this dress once before, but I have to bring it up again because it is some comfy. The pleating at the shoulders is a pretty detail, and the fabric is really light. It doesn’t cling or form fit, but still doesn’t look like a potato sack, which is A+ in my book. The wedges are super comfortable and elevate the whole look, but you could go even more casual with sandals. I like the pop of color in the necklace too.
This is the second time I’ve bought this dress in a different color (obviously the first color I bought was black). It is so flattering in the stomach area and basically feels like wearing a t-shirt. I’ve even rocked it with converse before. I love the olive green color because it is still a neutral without being basic black.
This dress is SO PRETTY. The floaty peplum layer, the pretty cutout on the shoulder, the a-line cut…just pretty. But it is also what I call guy pretty and girl pretty. What do I mean by that? Well girl pretty is when you are wearing something fashionable and all your girl friends love it and your boyfriend/husband/man person thinks it looks weird. Guy pretty is probably going to be something really basic that shows off your figure, because dudes are dudes and very rarely can appreciate the beautiful drape of fabric. Generally anything involving the words peplum, cape, vest, drape – your boy-man-dude-guy probably just doesn’t quite appreciate the way your friends do.
But with this dress, the little cutouts and neckline make it pretty to both parties! Winning! And it makes me feel my best no matter how I’m actually feeling about my body image that day, so that is a big deal to me too.
This is another favorite dress because you can pop on a blazer and you are good to go for work. I was really worried that it would be too stiff and not comfortable to sit in. I generally don’t like anything to be too tight around my waist because it makes me feel constricted and uncomfortable. Its 2017, I’m not trying to wear a girdle.
Luckily it is incredibly comfortable. I love the texture of the fabric, and it is my favorite color – black.
I am a sucker for an exposed zipper. I like that it adds a little edge to an otherwise very sweet dress.
And that’s enough dresses – this outfit is what I wore to happy hour last night. Marin County chic. I think at this point if I showed up to happy hour in real clothes, my friends would be concerned. Leggings and the cutest Patagonia pullover ever. This pullover is sold out everywhere in this white color, and for good reason. I love it. But don’t worry – I found the last few on the internet and linked it for you guys.
The hat I’m wearing is from Alpine Dam. They were founded and designed right here in Marin!! I am so excited they sent me a couple of their hats. I really love the nod to Mt. Tam in the logo, and the hats are just plain cool too. I will be sporting this hat proudly everywhere, and I think it is so cool that only those in the know, will know what the logo means. I’m wearing the new black and white hat, which should be available on their website soon. This color is called, “The Dipsea Moon.” When I wore it out to happy hour last night I already had people tell me they liked my hat and asking where it was from.
Do you ever get stuck in the dress conundrum?
Are you a hat person? I can’t get enough.
What is everyone’s long run this weekend? I have 15 tomorrow.
