I don’t know if it is the traveling I’ve been doing lately, or just because it is summer, but I’ve been reading like crazy.
Being a Harry Potter fan, quite enjoyed the newest book.
This was most definitely my status last Friday night. I know, I’m so exciting.
Another favorite was Run The World by Becky Wade. The ending of the book had me in tears!! In the best kind of way of course. I also loved My Life on The Run by Bart Yasso. No wonder everyone is so in love with this man. As both a person, and an icon in the running community. It made me want to work harder than every at my Yasso 800s!!
I had preordered “Run Fast. Eat Slow.” as soon as I heard about it. Like many other female runners, I want to be Shalane Flanagan HAHA. But in all seriousness, what a better team to put together a cookbook. There is even a sample week of exactly how Shalane eats.
Recipes I will be trying first: Shalane’s Breakfast-Meets-Dinner Bowl, Soba Noodle Salad with Runner’s High Peanut Sauce & Pecan Butter Chocolate Truffles with Sea Salt.
My favorite line in the book: “We hope our passion for “indulgent nourishment” shows young female athletes everywhere that food is not only fuel but also meant to be enjoyed.”
These dark chocolate, peanut butter, salted caramel truffles from Trader Joe’s are the trifecta of all my favorite flavors. They are really tasty and satisfying. I don’t think they will replace the mini dark chocolate peanut butter cups though.
When THE Nick Symmonds likes your photo!
I got these pillows made from fabric I brought home from Peru. I love the bright colors and they make me smile every time I go in my bedroom.
My mom & dad told me about this app. It is so much fun! Just a simple little puzzle you can do once a day. You gotta work out your brain too, right?!
Ok, so I will end this with the shortest version of the Honey Stinger saga possible. After a long run a while back, I got really sick. Like WAY sick. I had no idea what could have caused it. Everything I had used on the run, I had used multiple times before. I assumed it must have been a weird virus. A couple of weeks later, I got the same EXTREME sickness right after a track workout. I had used the same Honey Stinger Protein chews for both runs. Upon looking at their website, there was a “soft recall” for the product. Other people had gotten sick as well.
I filled out the form to let them know I had gotten sick. No response. I called and left messages two days in a row before getting a call back. The person I spoke with said they would be sending me an email with an address of where to mail the rest of the packages of Honey Stinger Protein chews. He also said that someone higher up in the company, like the President or VP would be calling me to apologize. I never heard from either of them.
I reached back out to ask again where to mail the other packages of chews. After three days, I finally got a call back, they didn’t want the chews anymore. They were not investigating the issue any more. They couldn’t find anything wrong with the other chews they’d been sent. They suggested I’d developed an allergy. Uhhh no! I had eaten a pack of the same chews roughly two weeks prior to the first sickness, and not been ill at all.
I mentioned the whole thing in a blog post at this point. Someone from Honey Stinger, named Mackenzie, commented on the post, calling me Jessica (my name is Jennifer!!). She suggested I let someone know and left me the link to the place I had originally filled out the form. I commented back, and explained the whole story. She never replied.
Honey Stinger did kindly offer to mail me free waffles, which I love. They sent me the wrong flavor.
Anyway – when I saw Gu came out with the waffles that are similar to Honey Stinger, I couldn’t be more excited to throw out my Honey Stinger waffles! I am thrilled to report that they taste just as good, if not better, than the Honey Stinger waffles, and they have a yummy chocolate flavor. You can check them out here. Full disclosure: I’m an REI affiliate – so if you buy something from REI via my blog, I get some ca$h money! Haha.
What is your Friday like?
What is on your reading list this summer?
