One of the questions I get asked all the time is what my favorite wireless headphones are – brand, type, ect. Jaybird Sport are the headphones I’ve had and loved since 2015. My mom & I were at the San Francisco Marathon Expo (the half marathon was my 3rd race ever), and she saw their booth. She said, “Jaybird headphones?! You are Jbird! You need these!” History would tell us that moms are always right, and this situation was no different. I did need them! She bought me a pair (because #onlychild) and they became my favorites right away.
In the best twist of fate, I got to be in a Jaybird video at the San Francisco marathon in 2017!
I used them every day and ran a ton of races wearing them. A while later, one of the members of the Jaybird team reached out and invited me to be a part of their athlete team. I called John & my parents shrieking because I was so excited! With this partnership, I’ve been lucky enough to get the opportunity to try their products. I get a lot of questions about which headphones I like the best, and which I would recommend. Please know that although I have gotten some of the pairs of headphones as part of our partnership, this is not a paid blog post or sponsored in any way. I try to be really upfront about that kind of thing! I honestly just decided to do a whole blog post about it because I get asked this question daily.
There are three types of headphones: RUN, Freedom 2, and the X3. All of them are awesome, but this is just my opinion on how I would choose between the three if I was only buying one pair.
RUN: These are my favorite to train with. So comfortable, I promise they will not fall out, and if you happen to accidentally leave one in a coat pocket (like I did), you can track it down with the Jaybird Sport app. Now, if you are a marathoner, their battery life advertised is 4 hours – that is without the volume at the highest level. Just something to keep in mind.
Freedom 2: These are perfect if you have small ears. They are so light and I love how they have the new adjustable feature. The battery lasts 8 hours.
X3: These were described to me as “rugged” and I would totally agree. The battery lasts for 8 hours as well. They fit very comfortably in my ears. These are probably what I will use to race Boston.
For all the above, you should definitely watch the video on how to fit your Jaybirds when you get them. They don’t fall out and don’t budge as long as you have them fitted correctly. Sometimes people message me and tell me they can’t get their Jaybirds to fit correctly. 100% of them time after I send them this video, they don’t have a problem any more. It just means taking 10 minutes to watch it and mess with your earbuds.
Also for all the above: download the Jaybird app – fun playlists and customizable sound, I’ve never had issues with Bluetooth connectivity, and the tech support (should you ever need it) is Nordstrom caliber, and that’s a lot coming from me haha!
So my recommendation? If am running a 3:10ish marathon, I would go for the RUN! If not, the Freedom 2 if you have small ears that seem to get sore easily. The X3 would be my all around choice as a workhorse that does anything. I hope that helps you pick! You honestly can’t make a bad decision.
Please note if you purchase anything from these links, I get a percentage. All opinions are my own and I greatly appreciate the support!
