I’ve been living in my house for a little over 3 years now. And it is – excitingly – OUR house now! John moved in over Labor Day weekend. Since I’ve lived in this house, I’ve used the 3rd bedroom as an office more and more. It is a tiny room, and I’m pretty sure the only reason it can be called a bedroom is because it has a closet in it.
When I got a work from home job a couple years ago, I was in the office every day. It had no light fixtures, but you could connect a lamp to the outlet that turned on and off with a with on the wall.
Additionally, when John moved in, I decided to move my clothes into the office closet. I have a lot of clothes and I wanted him to feel like it was his home too, so it felt like the right solution to a space problem. I also moved my bike into the office from the living room as well to make room for a bar/bookshelf area he wanted in the living room.
Pretty soon, it was feeling like I had crammed everything into my office and it was dark and full of crap haha! So I decided that if I was going to be spending that much time in there, I needed to make it a space I loved.
Before vs. After
I blurred out the numbers on the board above the computer because it has my sales numbers for work on it. I’m sure they would mean nothing to most people, but you can never be too careful with that kind of thing!
By getting a smaller desk in white, it helped the room feel a lot bigger. Adding lights in the ceiling made the biggest difference. Brightening up the room made it feel way bigger.
I also made a huge effort to declutter. Something I think I can probably always work on.
I bought the green cabinet from a friend a couple years ago – I believe it is from CB2, but its not in stock any more.
