I got to go to Portland for a work trip last week – and it coincided with a half marathon nearby. You can read the race recap here. This post is for the rest of the fun stuff 🙂
I got to stay at one of my favorite hotels, The Heathman, in downtown – which meant it was easy to get to one of my favorite running loops – down to the waterfront, over the Burnside bridge to the east side, back over the Tillikum Crossing bridge, and back to the waterfront.
The first three days I was there, I had meetings, but I got to meet some friends for dinner on Wednesday & Thursday.
Had to get in all my favorite Portland foods! Heathman breakfast, Garden Bar for lunch, and Melissa & I went to Old Gold for dinner & drinks.
John flew up and joined me for the weekend, and Friday we went to Andina for dinner. It is Peruvian food and everything there is AMAZING.
Although that big old octopus tentacle was all John’s LOL. I don’t mind octopus – but I don’t love the texture, even when it’s perfectly cooked.
We also went to a few breweries and walked around – even though I hate the sun not coming up at 5:30am anymore, it is nice that it stays light later.
The next day we drove to pick up my bib in Carlton & then a few minutes more to McMinnville. McMinnville is also were I went to college at Linfield College. So I showed John around the campus and saw what was different and the same.
We carb loaded at Nick’s – an Italian restaurant – for dinner. And I had my usual pre-race glass of wine.
The next morning was the race, and afterward we went to Archery Summit. It turned out they were having a special event where you paid a little more than you normally would for a tasting, and you got to walk through their wine caves while trying snacks and tasting different wines. It was 100% worth it and so much fun.
We also went to Duck Pond, Penner Ash & Erath wineries. Penner Ash is the photo above. It had one of the best views besides Archery Summit. It was a really fun trip, but I was so happy to get home to Bennie The Dog!
