I recently had an excuse to go to Carmel, so John, Bennie & I decided to make a day/evening of it. Well, I told John that I was booking a hotel for Bennie & I, and he was welcome to join us. Same same. Bennie likes to go on vacation, you know?
We had lunch at Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey first. It is right on the water and many of the restaurants are dog friendly. The people working there come out on the street and try to get you to pick their place. They all offer free tastes of clam chowder to try to lure you in. We picked a spot called Crab Louie’s which was good! The experience overall was super touristy. It was fun, but not something I’d need to do more than once or twice, personally. We sat outside which was great, but then you ended up having the people at the restaurant over your shoulder trying to get more people to come in.
The downtown area is super walkable and really beautiful. Because of the climate there, the flowers were in full bloom.
Downtown Carmel is also super charming and very walkable. This bakery window caught my eye lol! We took Bennie into a dog store that had a larger selection and was nicer than a Nordstrom.
We also got a drink from Cypress Inn in Carmel. They have a great patio with a Charlie Chaplain mural and they even brought Bennie water. The hotel is owned by Dorris Day, who loves dogs. It’s a shame she didn’t get to meet Bennie. It would be fun to stay there as it seems like dogs really get the VIP treatment.
We got in lots of walking on the beaches in the Pebble Beach area and Monterey.
We had happy hour at the delicious restaurant on site.
And finished off with some empanadas (those were Bennie’s favorite).
And the best chocolate desserts ever. All our food was 10/10 SO GOOD.
Good thing I was well fueled for a perfect 7 mile run down the beach the next morning!
I ran on the packed sand which felt so nice on my legs!
Even though it was a foggy morning, I still got a beautiful sunrise.
John and I had an great breakfast at the Wild Plum, which was across the street from our hotel.
My HUGE breakfast sandwich was under $10 and delicious.
While we packed up, Bennie enjoyed some sunshine from our room. We got upgraded when we checked in, so it was a really nice room.
We grabbed lunch at a poke bowl spot downtown and hit the road!
Carmel & Monterey is a truly beautiful area. I love the cool climate and how dog friendly it is. Most of the restaurants we ate at even had a menu for dogs! I am so looking forward to going back!
