John and I went down to Santa Monica last weekend and it was so much fun! He was already going to be there for work, so I flew down on Friday afternoon to meet him for a little mini-vacation.
We went to this super cool place called The Bungalow on Friday night for drinks. They have a big outdoor patio where you can watch the sunset.
From there we met up with one of John’s friends – he had moved to LA from SF (I absolutely love him as well). We met up with his roommate and some friends and got dinner at a fun Italian place. They even did family photos for us haha!
It was in Venice beach – cutest little town.
The next morning John went for a run with me from our hotel in Santa Monica by the pier, down to Venice Beach. You guys. Flat, gorgeous beach for miles. I could move there in a heart beat just for that. We did get insanely sunburned, which was so sad.
After our run we stopped and got tuna poke at a little food cart on the beach. It was SO GOOD!
Can I please run on the beach and eat this every single day?
We walked back to our hotel through Venice and pier and got to see muscle beach. There was no Arnold hanging around and it was much smaller than I was expecting. Does that happen to you guys? You envision something in your head and then you see it in person and it is just so much different?
Still pretty dang perfect though!! Just like these tacos were. Yes, food is extremely important to me.
We walked along the 3rd St Promenade and window shopped after that. They have big topiary dinosaur water fountains along the street that I thought were so cute. We got pretty worn out by the huge crowds quickly though.
We found a movie theater right on the promenade that had reclining seats AND wine/beer!! After a day of walking and all those crowds, putting our feet up sounded glorious.
We saw Captain America and I thought it was so good! I don’t know much about the Marvel comics, and didn’t really grow up with the characters like I know John did. I still really enjoyed the movie and thought it was great. The reclining seats were amazing. You could even put the arm up in the middle so that John and I basically had a reclining love seat. The only downfall was that the man next to me fell soundly asleep and started snoring super loud….haha!
The next morning John really wanted to go to Sidecar Doughnuts. It was so much fun. They had really interesting flavors like huckleberry, persimmon, & strawberry lemonade.
And they made them fresh right in front of you!!
We settled on a Mexican hot chocolate, maple bacon, strawberry lemonade and huckleberry. We also got some doughnut holes to try – they honestly might have been the best! So so good!! Although the Mexican hot chocolate and huckleberry were my other favorites. I have never had so much fun eating doughnuts.
After we fueled up, we walked down to the Pier for a Ferris Wheel ride before heading home. But not before stopping in a photo booth.
Photo booth pictures make me ridiculously happy.
I can’t do roller coasters (I will be sick for the whole day), but there is just something about a ferris wheel ride.
Monday came way too soon, but it was a great weekend!
