I can’t believe 5 weeks have gone by since Chicago training started! I’m really enjoying building the mileage base.
Monday – Speed work – mile up @ 8:10, 800s X 5 @ 2:53/3:01/2:59/3:08/3:05 w/ 800 cool downs in between, cool down mile @ 8:28 = 7 miles @ 7:33 avg. This was the day I ate the bad Honey Stinger chews. Starting right after my run, I was very sick all day.
Tuesday – 2 recovery @ 9:10 avg & full body lift. I was still not feeling right this day, so it was nice it was an easy day. Plus, I had not been able to keep anything down the day before, so I keeping it easy was key.
Wednesday – 1 mile up 8:31/7:29/7:23/7:20/7:08/7:03/ 6:50 – 7 miles @ 7:24 avg. Followed by legs & physical therapy exercises. My legs were still feeling right and sore from Monday’s speedwork and lack of stretching. I still felt a little nauseous too, but felt much better once this was done.
Friday – 12 miles EZ @ 8:38 avg. I was a little worried about this run getting done. We went to Tahoe for the weekend, but wanted to get ahead of the traffic. So we left early early on Friday morning. Too early for me to get my long run done prior to leaving. I was worried I wouldn’t get it done once in Tahoe because: a work blow up could have come up, higher elevation, I might not be able to find a place to run 12 miles, and lastly – Friday is normally a cross training day, so my body could have potentially reacted badly to running 5 days straight. BUT- the good news is that none of this happened and the run was great! It was definitely hard to run with the altitude. It felt like my legs were lead and I was breathing through a straw. So I decided not to worry about my pace at all, and just go by effort.
We are on the road home now. I don’t think I will run today. Yesterday was a pretty active rest day, and I don’t want to cause any injuries by over training so early in the game. This week was a total of 34 miles. This weekend was so much fun and I can’t thank our friends enough for inviting us to join them.
