Happy Monday! I hope your team won the Super Bowl last night, whoever that may be. I watched just to see Shalane’s Michelob Ultra commercial.
This week was super exciting for me because I got to start incorporating a double run day! Yes, that’s how lame I am, and that’s the way I like it. My coach is having me to do this to safely increase mileage. She asked if Monday was a good day for me to do a double run, and it is perfect for my schedule.
In the morning I did 7 miles easy at 9:07 average. Then about 40 minutes upper body & core strength.
In the afternoon, I did another 3 miles easy paced at 8:47 average. I was feeling really good, but made sure not to go to fast so that I could nail my quality workout the next morning.
1/30 Tuesday – 2 miles warm up, 6 miles at 7:40, 2 miles cool down. Actual paces: 7:43/7:38/7:35/7:33/7:31/7:21. HELL FREAKIN YES. I needed this. Last week’s quality workout just really sucked haha, so this was a much needed reminder that my hard work is, well, working.
1/31 Wednesday – 6 miles easy at 9:14 average. Finished with a 50 min lower body lift.
2/1 Thursday – 2000 yards, 37:02, 1:51/100 yards. I had planned on this being 4000 yards, but honestly I was just not IN it. I decided to call it and go home to spend more time stretching. Considering that I felt fried, I count this as a win. It is hard for me to stop a workout early, so this was a good move for me.
2/2 Friday – I had to get my blood drawn in the morning fasted, so I moved my workout to my lunch break. 5.2 miles easy at 9:26 average and about 40 minutes of upper body lifting & band work. I was feeling pretty zapped, so I kept it easy and light. I also spent about 10 minutes trying to catch a lost dog and couldn’t, which was incredibly upsetting. Don’t worry, I called Bennie from the Furbo to tell him I love him after.
Technology is the best.
2/3 Saturday – Long run day. I drove back to my old hilly route that I used for Boston training last year. 15 miles easy at 8:47 average.
I kept it easy in the beginning and cut down as I felt more comfortable. Towards the end of the run, I was feeling a little nauseous from the fuel I tried out, I had overdressed, and my right hip was locking up. Interestingly enough, none of this phased me. I just rode it out and let muscle memory take over. My last 3 miles were my fastest. Really happy about that.
I only have about 10 more long runs to nail down my nutrition, so I am working to make sure I’ve gotten something that works for me. I tried Maurten my last 2 long runs and I think it is making me sick. Maurten is the fuel they used for the breaking 2 project, and the company was kind enough to send me a box. It is made with simple ingredients and it supposed to be great for people with sensitive stomachs, so I can’t fathom why it would make me sick.
Saturday night I was CRAVING chips with guacamole and a margarita. John & I went to the place I was craving – once we were seated, it took a longggg time to get our drinks. Then another lifetime to get the chips and guacamole. I checked with the waiter about them and got total ATTITUDE. So we lost interest in sitting there.
On the way home, we stopped at the corner store (which is maybe one of the best parts about my neighborhood – they even sell Clif Shot bloks!). We got some delicious pesto pasta and salmon and ate it at home on the couch with wine.
The only downside of the evening is that my right hand is sore from learning how to play video games. Seriously. I know – I wish I was joking too.
46.2 miles this week.
