Merry Christmas!! I hope you are having a great day and enjoying the holiday with your family/friends/pets/ect.
This was a great week of running for me. I nailed my quality workout on Tuesday, got to run with my Dad, and made it to the gym for weight lifting 3 times. I also did some kind of stretching and/or foam rolling every day and ate relatively well considering the ample opportunity to eat nothing but carbohydrates and sugar. And wine. Who needs hydration anyway. (I’m kidding. I need hydration!!) I definitely enjoyed some of whatever I wanted though.

12/21 Thursday – 5000 yards swimming, 1:33:25, 1:52/100 yard. We spent about 4 hours in the car on this day getting to my parents house, so I did a little extra stretching to keep my hips and hamstrings happy.

12/23 Saturday – 14 miles easy with my Dad! It was his first 14 mile run in preparation for his first half marathon this January. It was our “dress rehearsal” as I am going to pace him in the race. We got perfect negative splits on our 14 miler and ended with a 10:51 average. So proud! He did amazing! I am really proud of him for practicing his nutrition too. So many people don’t practice that and then have issues on race day.
We got home (home to my parent’s house – anyone else still refer to your parent’s house as home as well as your house?) – to this dinner!! Turkey burgers with gorgonzola cheese, avocado, green beans and sweet potato fries. Aka my perfect meal.
We did make sure to hit up my favorite sushi spot in town as well. We split some fun sushi rolls between my dad, John and myself (my mom is a no-go on raw fish), and also got some nigiri for our pre long-run carbs. Delicious. The roll in the very bottom of the picture below was called the Merry Christmas roll because salmon and avocado – genius and so damn good.
I am also trying out switching my pre-long run breakfast to a bagel with peanut butter and banana. I was listening to this podcast with Tina Muir and Emma Coburn and they were talking about how this meal is both their pre-race meal. Why? Because you can find it anywhere in the world. These two women who have raced all over the world & I thought that was a fantastic point. As I am looking at Boston and Berlin this year, I figured I’d give it a try too. It doesn’t hurt that it tastes amazing too.
My parents have a gas fireplace and Bennie is OBSESSED with it. It is so funny. He loves to sit in the sun at home and will find any little sliver of sun to sit in and bake, so it makes sense because he loves to be warm. But it is pretty funny how hard it is to get him away from it.
John & I got to play 9 holes of golf with my mom which was SO much fun! It was freezing, so hot chocolate (with some peppermint schnapps!) did the trick to keep us warm. I spent a couple of summers at golf camp when I was a kid, and I can definitely report that those skills did NOT stick with me. My mom is a good teacher though, so they came back somewhat after I had a reminder (or 12).
My parents make this trail mix every Christmas and it is so ADDICTIVE. It’s salty and crunchy and basically everything I want in a snack. I have to take a handful, close the lid and walk away or I will eat all of it hahaha.
My parents have a second garage that was meant for an RV or a boat, but since they have neither of those things – my mom turned it into her own private driving range haha! It is a lot of fun and a good activity for after you’ve eaten too much trail mix and don’t want to just sit on the couch.
