Monday was a rest day. The day after a Sunday race and 18 collective miles. I slept in as much as I could, and went to yoga. And this guy and I had lots of walks between rain storms.
Tuesday was 6 miles easy at 9:19 average. Then I did 3 rounds of: 20 wall sit alternating side slams, 10 kettlebell deadlift, 20 pile squats with kettle bell, 10 thrusters, 10 tuck jumps, 30 one legged hip thrusters each side.
Wednesday was 9 miles at 8:09 average. I waited for the rain to stop before I headed out. About 2 miles in, the sky opened up and it started dumping. By the time I was done, I was soaked to the bone. I did head inside the gym to lift, but I was dripping all over everything and just felt wiped. So I called the ball and headed home. Sometimes it is just not worth forcing. I felt gassed after the run, rain and hills.
Thursday was 1 warm up mile followed by 10 Yasso 800s with 400 meter easy run in between each 800 rep: 3:12/3:10/3:13/3:14/3:13/3:15/3:21/3:13/3:24/3:25. It got very very rainy and windy at the end there but I hung on! 3/4 mile easy cool down – 9 miles total at 7:37 average. Another day where I ended up completely soaked.
Friday was a swim day: 400 warm up, 12 x 75 free, 2 x 150 pull buoy, 2 x 200 fins, remainder backstroke – 2300 meters total at 2:29 pace.
Saturday was 20 miles at 8:37 average. I did the first half the workout at an easy effort pace, then the goal was to descend to my goal marathon pace for the last half. I struggled to do that. That is ok though, I got good hill work in (1,103 feet of elevation gain and loss), and my plan is to keep chipping away at the pace and see what I can get done over the next 64 days.
In terms of fueling this was a really successful run too. I had a scoop of Generation Ucan and a banana with almond butter for breakfast. At 5 miles in, I had an orange Glukos, 10 miles I had a Huma plus chia gel, and mile 15 I had another Glukos – lemon flavor this time. Everything sat well with my stomach which was great.
This is my first full week on the thyroid medication and I am feeling a lot better already! My hands didn’t cramp during the long run, and starting on Thursday, I felt much less fatigued. I am so happy that it seems to be helping. I hope that will also help with my running.
