This week wasn’t the most exciting. No big workouts or anything especially challenging. But it was exactly what I needed after a rough race. You can my Seattle Rock N Roll recap here.
Normally I would have taken Monday after a race off. BUT – I had the opportunity to run in Boulder with JOHN!! We have been dating three years and this is our second ever run together haha. We went out for an easy 5.75 miles @ 8:35 average. I would have gone even slower, but John was having fun pushing the pace at the end (aka he wanted to be done LOL). I loved running with him! More on Boulder tomorrow.
Not sure the feeling of joy was completely mutual 😉
As I should have taken Monday as a rest day, I was due for a day off on Tuesday. Extra snuggles with this guy make rest day easy. He is a pro.
3X: 15 DB deadlifts & 15 Romanian split squats
3X: 10 DB thrusters & 10 burpees
3X: 15 lat raises & 15 jump squats
3X: 10 push-ups & 30 ab bicycles
Thursday was a swim day. I really didn’t feel like swimming. After having a rest day on Tuesday, my body felt refreshed and not like I needed the swim at all. But I think it is better to stay ahead feeling rested and refreshed. I decided to save up the urge to run to feel extra motivated for my long run on Saturday.
I did the Masters workout that was left on the board from Tuesday. I added an extra rep to the main set and then finished off a round 3000 yards with the backstroke. I love finishing with that stroke since I spend so much of my day with my shoulders rounded forward.
Friday was another 5 easy and I took it to the trails for the first part. I like the beautiful scenery and springy soft dirt. Plus trail running gets you moving laterally – unlike road running which is just the same steps over and over. I did finish on the roads though – I realized my phone didn’t have any reception and I had neglected to share with anyone where I was going to be. Safety over all else.
After I ran, I hit the gym for a strength circuit.
3X: 15 squats & 20 lateral band walks
3X: 12 lat pull downs & 12 cable rows
3X: 12 leg press & 12 hamstring curls
20-15-10: shoulder press, hammer curls, tricep kickbacks
Friday night was John’s birthday. We went out for sushi – lots of sushi. And lots of wine happened too.
Saturday was 14 mile long run. I didn’t feel great from the three glasses of wine (or maybe four), that I had on Friday night. I normally don’t have that much wine on Friday night. But you gotta live your life, right? I drank a huge glass of water with Nuun before bed and then right when I woke up and I was ok after that. The first 9 miles were mellow & the last 5 miles were supposed to be cutting down speed gradually.
I am REALLY proud of those last splits. I was beating myself up a little for having too much wine and not feeling so hot. But by the time those first nine miles were through, I was feeling good and ready to work for my pace. And then I got them! I also think this can be attributed to keeping the first nine truly easy. Sometimes I go a little too fast in the miles that are supposed to be “easy” and then I struggle harder for the paces.
Saturday night was John’s Birthday. We had some friends over and I barbecued and made a cake. I was very happy that all the food came out right lol! I am still not a pro at cooking for other people – so when none of the meat was overcooked or undercooked, and the cake was good – I was so so happy lol! We had burgers with all the fixings, teriyaki chicken, grilled corn on the cob, potato salad, a green salad, and watermelon.
On Wednesday I had a super busy day and ate out for both lunch and dinner. Breakfast was the usual oatmeal with half a scoop of protein powder, blueberries, banana and peanut butter. And of course coffee with Vital Proteins collagen. It is crazy how much of a difference I have actually noticed in my nails and hair. Even my eyebrows feel thicker haha. I have no affiliation with Vital Proteins. They have sent me free product to try in the past, but otherwise no compensation. It is just a product I really like.
I ate breakfast earlier than normal because I had to be on the road for a meeting. By the time 12:30 rolled around, I was STARVING. I went to Mod Pizza, which I love. It is kind of like Subway for pizza – you build your own and they fire it right there. I got mine in a to go box because I didn’t think I’d eat the whole thing. But I ate half and then answered emails on my phone for a little while and decided I was still quite hungry. So I finished it off.
Dinner was out at State Room with one of my best friends. I got a salad with salmon, orange slices, and pear. It was super yummy and fresh tasting.
When I got home I wasn’t hungry, but was craving something sweet, so I had two Justin’s mini dark chocolate peanut butter cups.
