I can’t believe the Chicago marathon is next weekend! It feels like I’ve been counting it down for a long long time and all of the sudden it is just a few days away! I will probably start parking tomorrow haha. Everyone always makes fun of me for packing so early. I usually do laundry on Sunday or Monday, so then I pack for my weekend trip ahead then so that I don’t wear any of the clean clothes I want to take.
Monday was an easy 6 miles at 9:08 average. Then I hit the gym:
- SS3X: 25 bicycles & 25 toe touches
- 3 rounds: 20 bench jumps, 30 second plank, 20 tricep dips
- SS3X: 15 alt bicep curls, 15 plyo jumping lunges & 30 straight leg lifts
- 3 rounds: 15 single legged squats, 15 curtsy lunges & 15 banded lateral steps
- 3 rounds: 15 hammer curls, 15 tricep kick backs & 15 push ups
Tuesday was 2 miles warm up, 14 x 1 minute hard, 1 minute easy, 2 miles cool easy. My paces were: 6:55/7:00/6:46/6:42/6:38/6:41/6:31/6:42/6:31/6:22/6:40/6:23/6:00/5:58
Wednesday was 5 miles easy at 9:10 average, followed by leg day:
- SS3X: 12 squats & 12 landmine press
- SS3X: 10 side lunge & 45 second plank
- SS3X: 12/12 Romanian split squats & 25 v-ups
- SS3X: 12/12 curtsy squats & 15 straight leg lifts
- SS3X: 15 leg press & 10/10 plyo jumping lunges
Thursday morning was 3000 yards at 100 yards/2:00 min pace.
Then Thursday afternoon I had 3 miles easy at 8:34. It was 90 degrees when I did this run and I had just gotten a paper cut. Yow! Haha!
I took Friday as a rest day since I had a long day trip for work and would be doing a race on Sunday, when I normally take a rest day. I left at about 4:30am and got home around 4:00pm. I could have definitely gone straight to the gym as soon as I came home, but I talked about it with my coach and she thought taking the day as a rest day would work just fine.
I love the Vital Proteins individual serving size packs
Saturday morning 5 miles easy at 8:35 average. It was so weird to run for 5 miles on a Saturday and then lift. But it was great and I loved getting to take my time at the gym. I lifted delts, or as I like to them, the muscle that keeps your purse strap on your shoulder haha!
- SS3X: 10 dumbbell snatch & 15 reverse dumbbell flies
- SS3X: 20 drop set lat raises & 12 bent over barbell row
- SS3X: 12 dumbbell shoulder press & 12 upright barbell row
- SS3X: 12 upright cable row & 12 Arnolds
Sunday I had a 3 mile warm up at 8:59 pace, then did the 12k (7.56 miles per my watch) race easy paced at 8:19, then a 2 mile cool down at 9:22. Oh my goodness I did not feel like doing that cool down run. 12.56 for my final double digit run before Chicago! A big part of why I wanted to do this race was because I had already done Bay to Breakers, the SF Half Marathon, and The Giants Race, so if I did this race, I would get the SF Originals medal. I’ll do a mini race recap tomorrow and post a close of the medal!
39.56 miles for the week! Also, I realize my legs look tan in the photo above. I assure you, that is partly good lighting. However, the contrast between my natural skin tone (is translucent a skin tone?) and the rest of my legs is impressive for me.
What I Ate In A Day:
5:30am: The morning of the 12k, I got up and had a large coffee with 2% milk and Vital Proteins, an english muffin with peanut butter and banana.
I didn’t use any fuel/gels/ect during the race or my warm up or cool down. I usually don’t unless I’m running at a harder effort for 13+ miles.
10:00am: After my cool down, I got a smoothie called “The Perfect Date.” It had dates, kale, peanut butter, banana & vanilla whey protein, and basically tasted wayyy too good to be good for me. But with pretty clean ingredients and as a post race recovery, I thought that was ok!
12:30pm I had some red Thai beef curry – I skipped the rice, so just had a big bowl of protein and veggies. It is super tasty.
2:30pm I had a bag of Quest Protein chips (the cheddar & sour cream ones are delicious).
6:30pm: I had a bison burger with cheddar cheese and bacon and a glass of wine. John and I split a side of sweet potato fries too!
Do you pack early or last minute?
